Josef Andrek, a public and sworn IHK-expert
On 27th October 2015, Dipl.-Ing. Josef Andrek, managing director of IGOS Institute for Electroplating and Surface technologies GmbH & Co.KG was appointed as a public and sworn IHK-expert for "coatings of metallic based materials and damage analysis".
1. Bachelor thesis at the IGOS
Mr. Martin Motzko has completed his bachelor thesis with the subject "Investigations on the degree of purity of stainless machining steels" between November, 2014 and February, 2015 as a working student at the IGOS (Institute for Electroplating and surface Treatments Solingen GmbH & Co. KG) in cooperation with the advanced technical college of Cologne - institute of product development and construction successfully. His bachelor thesis was supervised and accompanied by Professor Dr. Michael Hagen (Advanced technical college of Cologne) and Josef Andrek (IGOS). The topic of his bachelor thesis was a comparing investigation of inclusions in five stainless machining steels following the norms DIN EN ISO 10247 and the SEP 1572. For that matter several material analyses were done, as well as a complete metallographic examination (using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for EDX-Analyses). At the same time corrosion tests of the different steels were done and evaluated. Mr. Motzko has achieved his subject-linked eligibility of university admission in 2011 as a part of his successfully completed apprenticeship as a technical assistant for metallography and material science at the technical school in Solingen (TBK). Afterwards he started his studies of mechanical engineering at the advanced technical college in Cologne. Mr. Motzko will continue his studies with the goal of achieving the master degree.
On 1 January 2014, BSG (a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Solingen) bought up the shareholding from the Guild of Electroplaters and became the sole shareholder of IGOS.
20 years of IGOS
On 23 May 2013, about 130 guests flocked to our anniversary celebrations as part of the 3rd Electroplating Convention to find out what lies behind our slogan "... On the face of it......and beyond"
Demands on coating systems are constantly increasing. In order to emulate the many kinds of weathering and corrosion encountered in the real world, manufacturers, in particular those in the automotive industry, require ever more complex and demanding corrosion tests. We have responded to these demands by installing our new corrosion testing centre.
After Dr Werner Olberding left the company in June 2011, it was necessary to reorganise the Management of the Institute.
Together, Rainer Schmidtberg (right) and Dipl.-Ing. Josef Andrek (left), hitherto manager of the institute, were appointed Managing Directors.
On 24 Aug. 2011, the institute was renamed from "Institut für Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik Solingen GmbH (IGOS)" to "Institut für Galvano & Oberflächentechnik Solingen GmbH & Co. KG (IGOS)" which took effect from 1 Jan. 2011. (Company no. HRA 23300 at the Court in Wuppertal)
The shareholders are still the holding company Stadt Solingen mbH and the electroplaters guild in Solingen. The Senior Partner in the company is the "Wirtschaftsförderung Solingen Verwaltungs GmbH", the city's business development organisation.
When Dr Werner Olberding left the Institute, Rainer Schmidtberg took over the management on an interim basis while Josef Andrek took over the technical leadership, also on an interim basis.
IGOS' quality system is audited by (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle Chemie GmbH). All the requirements of DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005 are met.
The auditors were particularly impressed by the Institute's customer focus and the "exemplary manner in which storage tests were performed in the laboratory". The auditors recommended that the accreditation committee should issue IGOS GmbH with the appropriate accreditation to DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005.
The Managing Director and Technical Manager of IGOS GmbH, Dr Werner Olberding, was unanimously appointed Chairman of the Quality Committee of the Quality Association for the Electroplating Industry (GGG e.V.).
On 1 Jan. 2004, BSG (holding company of the City of Solingen) acquired the shares held up to that time by the City of Solingen and the Solingen utilities company.
IGOS celebrates its first ten years.
During a ceremony to recognise the contributions made by IGOS, the Mayor of Solingen, Franz Haug, paid tribute to the Institute's work. IGOS took advantage of the celebrations to invite students from Solingen's schools to discover more about vocational openings and training opportunities in professions related to the surface treatments industry. Around 100 students grasped the opportunity to see more.
IGOS is recognised for its contributions to the "Active Corporate Culture in the Solingen, Wuppertal, Remscheid region" for its "future-orientated initiatives" as an innovative enterprise involved in the Regionale 2006 business development events.
Dr Werner Olberding (r) takes over as Technical Manager
and Managing Director from Willi Metzger (l).
The City of Solingen's utilities company, Stadtwerke Solingen GmbH, acquires the shares held by FGW, the Business Research and Incubator Park Solingen GmbH, the Solingen Electroplating Centre and the Incubator Park Remscheid and thus becomes senior shareholder.
The new electroplating test line is commissioned.
Willi Metzger is appointed sole Managing Director, Dr Michael Beier-Korbmacher becomes Technical Manager of the Institute.
The Institute moves from Brosshauser Str. (Solingen-Ohligs) to the Business Research and Incubator Park, Solingen.
The idea of locating an electroplating institute in Solingen goes back to the end of the 1980s. On 7 Dec. 1993, IGOS, from its German title "Institut für Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik Solingen GmbH & Co. KG" (Institute for Electroplating and Surface Treatments) was founded.
The Institute considers itself to be an impartial contact for business enterprises, the authorities and other interested parties searching for solutions to problems relating to coatings, surfaces and electroplating. In this field, IGOS provides technical and economic advice, research and development based on practical experience, expert opinions, training and further training.
Further shareholders come on board: the "Research Association for Tools and Materials, Remscheid (FGW)", the Guild of Electroplaters, the City of Solingen, Business Research and Incubator Park, Solingen GmbH, the Solingen Electroplating Centre and the Incubator Park Remscheid.
Hans Ohmes becomes Managing Director.
